What's the buzz?
October to November in 4 weeks. Tickets $49 to $57
This October and November, Gosford Musical Society presents a bold and reimagined production of Jesus Christ Superstar, the iconic rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Under the direction of Scott Russell (Sweeney Todd, The Attic), this ambitious staging transports the biblical narrative into the high-stakes world of modern tech start-ups.
Set in a stylised, tech-saturated universe, the story draws compelling parallels between Jesus and Judas and the fractured relationships of Silicon Valley icons. Characters are reinterpreted with contemporary resonance: Mary Magdalene as a composed marketing executive navigating a toxic corporate culture, Herod as an old-media shock jock, and Jesus as a visionary leader grappling with the pressures of influence, loyalty, and betrayal.
Featuring an experimental multimedia approach, the production integrates live video feeds operated by the cast, projected in real-time to bring audiences closer to the emotion and drama on stage. This innovative use of technology challenges theatrical convention and invites audiences to engage with the story through a 21st-century lens.
Stripped of robes and sandals, and reimagined with turtlenecks and boardrooms, this Superstar aims to spark conversation while remaining true to the original's spirit of rebellion and reinvention.
