This year was the 92nd year that the SMC have contributed to ANZAC Day at the Cenotaph in Martin Place. Always a privilege and honour to be asked to attend.

The SMC have uploaded our Members Health Policy and Code of Conduct on the “Join us” page after the FAQ’s, for potential members to read and understand.

If you would like to be part of the SMC and enjoy coming on tour with us to interesting places and “Bringing Joy Through Song” to a range of different audiences in different locations, come along and join us every Tuesday night between 6.00pm and 8.30pm at Club York 95 York Street in the Sydney CBD, just a 5 minute walk from Town Hall station.

James Paul

Musical Director

James Paul is a Choral director and Music educator with over 25 years experience working with singers of all ages.  He runs choral programs at Sydney Boys High School, Sydney Girls High School, St Vincent's College and Inaburra School and he conducts the Sutherland Shire Choral Society and the Sydney Street Choir.  James has worked as a vocal coach with Sydney Theatre Company and has prepared choirs for Opera Australia and his compositions have been heard on ABC Classic FM.  He holds a Master of Music in Composition from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. 

 

 

 

Dr Brieley Cutting

Accompanist

Raised on a farm in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, Brieley studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne, and at the Royal College of Music in London courtesy of a David Paul Landa Memorial Scholarship, the Tait Memorial Trust and the Australian Music Foundation. 

In 2006, she was National Keyboard Winner of the Symphony Australia ABC Young Performers Awards, performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3 with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for ABC live radio and television in the Grand Final. In 2010 she received second placing in the Kerikeri National Piano Competition in New Zealand. Brieley was granted a fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust in 2013 and three years later was awarded a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Griffith University. 

Brieley has performed as soloist and chamber music collaborator at venues in London, Brussels, Salzburg, and New Zealand, and in Australia’s leading concert venues.

Brieley has appeared as concerto soloist with orchestras including the Melbourne Symphony, Adelaide Symphony, Queensland Symphony, Melbourne Youth Orchestra, and the Nizchny-Novgorod Philharmonic.

We are delighted to have Brieley join the Choir, and look forward to her collaboration with our Musical Director and the Choir.
